Therapy and research

MedAustron, the center for ion therapy and research is located in Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria, about 50 kilometers south of Vienna.

EBG MedAustron was founded on April 21, 2007. The company is indirectly in the federal state of Lower Austria’s ownership, its purposes are the construction and the operation of the centre.MedAustron’s whole particle accelerator consists of over 1.000 parts produced by more than 230 manufacturers in more than 22 countries.

A precise application of the therapy beam to the tumor is the most essential trait of ion beam therapy. Therefore it is imperative to position the patient to the nearest millimeter to the beam and to closely observe the position during the whole treatment.

MedAustron has four irradiation rooms. Three will be used for patient treatment and one for non-clinical research.

Wiener Neustadt is an education-, research- and economy location with a dynamic development. The “Landesklinikum Wiener Neustadt” with a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the “Technology- and Research Center” as direct neighbor or the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt with curriculum sections in technology and health offer an ideal environment for the MedAustron Center.

180 employees from about 18 different countries are currently working for MedAustron. These include physicians, physicists, engineers, medical physicists, radiology technologists and administrative staff.
